HISTORY
Hemlock had a rather simple childhood; she grew up in a single parent household, living in a complex with her mother near the coast. Her mother was a consultant; as such, she was often away and busy, leaving Hemlock to learn to fend for herself at a young age. She was initially a curious, fun-loving child - the pride of any youngster, to be sure. It wasn't until an accident in her younger years that she began to change.
She can't quite recall the details all at once, and at any one time; but Hemlock is sure that it was just her and some of the other kids messing around in the apartments when something fell or broke. Then it was there; fire, massive, eating away at the building around them. Hemlock ended up getting stuck with a choice; face the threatening flame coming at her to help one of the fallen kids up, or keep running. She constantly regrets not helping him back up, back out. She regrets it to her core. She still has nightmares about that mother's face, the tears, the way it all happened too fast and too much for a child to endure.
After that, Hemlock drew inward. She lost her sense of self for a time; she refused to attend school, refused to accept any responsibilities. It was at this time that her mother did one of the few things possible; she quit her job and spent her time with her daughter, finding that she could get Hemlock to spend time with her in games and books. The world-popular card game, in particular, drew her in, and she soon found herself spending increasing amounts of time on the game.
Her mother resumed employment and Hemlock managed to get through what schooling she needed before opportunity knocked; a chance to attend the prestigious duel academy. She took it and bade goodbye to her mother; off she went to the dorms. She initially had lofty dreams and expectations; to be able to be average at dueling was all she was aiming for, initially.
Unfortunately for Hemlock, she almost choked during the entrance exams; the young miss was buckled from the stress and only managed to do well enough to pass thanks to some challenging encouragement from her proctor. Hemlock scraped by, landing herself in Osiris Red. Three years ago was when she landed herself in that situation; since then, she's been stuck with the red colors ever since.
