Duel Disks
Likely to be Kaiba Corp's most popular product, the Duel Disk has gone through many designs and renditions over the years. It makes dueling more mobile, no longer requiring a table or flat surface to place your cards on, while making the game more exciting.
While the various Duel Disks in the series have shown to have a number of additional features outside of the usual dueling capabilities, these are the functionalities that I feel we should include in the standard Duel Disk:
Basic Holographic Dueling Functionalities: Really wouldn't be a Duel Disk without this.
Deck Shuffler: No explanation is really needed for this.
Extra Deck Storage: Again, no explanation should be needed for this.
Wired and Wireless connections to compatible machines such as laptops and computers: I remember Kaiba connecting his duel disk to battle box duel arenas before (likely out of pride) but this can be extended further to other machines like computers and laptops to perform software updates and maintenance.
Kaiba Corp Satellite Uplink: Kaiba showed that he could use his satellite to determine the location of the duelists in the Battle City tournament. I am pretty sure that most duel disks would have this connection, especially if they were built by Kaiba Corp. Any academy issued disks would have this as well and would likely be used to keep track of wins and losses.
Pendulum Zones: Gonna need this since Pendulum cards are a thing.
Touch Screen Tablet Display and unified S/T slot: In Arc-V, the duel disks all have a sort of touch screen display that shows the field and lets them interact with cards on the field and probably activate their card effects. It is a more effective system than the previous duel disks that had you place a card in one of the S/T slots and then press a button. A single slot to enter cards into (face up for immediate activation and face down to set) with a touch screen tablet to control their activation and target selection would be ideal.
Augmented Reality Solid Vision Head Piece: Basically the D-Gazer but more likely in the form of the attachment used in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie. It would keep track of Life points, cards remaining in deck, while providing them with other public information like data on their opponent's card effects and stats by looking at the appropriate solid vision hologram. This attachment would most likely be an optional item as much all of its functionality would already be in the Touch Screen Tablet display as described earlier, making it more of a luxury item.
Academy Models:Since Kaiba owns the academy, he basically has an entire school filled with teenagers to test out prototypes for him. Would make business sense to basically make the academy duel disks test prototypes. The students probably wouldn't mind too much either as they are getting free duel disks, well it is not exactly free, just covered in the tuition.
There would likely be three different models, one for each dorm:
The Osiris model would likely be a more retro/refurbished design, an attempt at updating older models to current day standards. Would fit the image of Slifers being the bottom of the barrel and getting hand-me-downs and act as motivation for them to work hard at ranking up to get access to newer models. A possible design could be a refurbished version of the GX Academy Duel Disks.
The Ra Model would be a prototype for a new mass production model. Their capabilities would be higher than the standard models, could include additional Augmented Reality features such as communication software for example. All in all, it would likely be similar to the Duel Disk Yugi used in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie.
The Obelisk Model would be a prototype for a cutting edge luxury model. It would be one of the most advance models to exist and would fit the luxuries that are afforded to Obelisk Blue students. The design would likely be similar to the Duel Disk Kaiba used in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie, using solid vision cards rather than physical cards. The actual deck itself would either be registered into a server (most likely Kaiba Corp's), stored inside the duel disk or a compatible deck box, and the Duel Disk would then scan the deck and generate the solid vision cards used. There would likely be more augmented reality features associated with the duel disk as the cards themselves are holograms. They could even possibly use hard light like in Arc-V but that may be pushing the technology a bit too much, especially when you consider the implication of hard light equaling recreating the Shadow Games via Science.
Both the Ra and Obelisk Model come with an Augmented Reality Solid Vision Head Piece. The Ra version is the standard version. The, on the other hand, Obelisk version is an enhanced version, designed specifically for the Obelisk model, that adds in brainwave controls allowing the user to check their extra deck, their's and their opponent's face-up extra deck, graveyard, face-up banish pile, and allows them to activate cards and card effects through their brainwaves rather than having to manipulate the tablet screen.
Students of higher tier dorms can use Duel Disk models of lower tier dorms, albeit with a color scheme matching their dorm. An Obelisk student would be able to use the Ra and Osiris models if they wish to, a Ra would be able to use the Osiris Model but not the Obelisk Model, and an Osiris would only be able to use the Osiris model.
Win/Loss Automatic Tracking: While on school grounds, the Duels using the Academy Duel Disks would be recorded by the school servers through an uplink all of the academy duel disks would have. Off-record duels would either be performed by turning off the recording feature if possible or by simply using a flat surface to play Duel Monsters on, other wise the duel will be recorded the the necessary dorm re-assignments would be applied when applicable. Upon graduation, Students would have the uplink removed from their duel disks; though another possibility could be that instead of the school keeping track of it after graduation, the uplink would be rerouted and Kaiba Corp would end up tracking it. Kaiba was shown to keep a database of duelists around the world during the Battle City registrations. He'd likely impose similar requirements to any Kaiba Corp hosted tournaments.
