HISTORY
Roxanne was born in London as the youngest of three. Her parents were both archeologists. She had two brothers, both older. Her eldest brother, Kale, is the only one whom she grew up with. The brother born only a year before her, Elliot, has a sickly body, and as such, he was sent to live in a hospital in the countryside with friends of the family. As a result, her relationship with Elliot is almost nonexistent, but she always tries to send him emails and photographs of what she does. Kale, however, has always been there for Roxanne in person and shares a very good relationship with her.
Due to her parents busy work schedule and exotic jobs, they were rarely home during her childhood. Because of this, Roxanne's brother Kale often took care of her along with nannies. Growing up, Kale was very protective of the young girl. This may have backfired as when Roxanne started school, she became much too shy to interact with the other kids. Her only real friend was her brother. As they both went through school, Kale had less and less time to spend with his sister. She was in elementary school, and he was in high school. In an attempt to help her make friends, he introduced her to Duel Monsters in the second grade. Roxanne quickly grew attached to the game, but she couldn't build up the courage to ask other students to play until the fourth grade.
However, her image as a shy girl still stuck. Whenever she tried to duel, her classmates would sneer at her. Roxanne managed to win most of her duels, but her opponents tended to get upset. They accused her of cheating. After all, Roxanne had never publicly shown interest in the game up until recently. Whenever she tried to duel with others, Roxanne could feel the glares at the back of her head. She became afraid to duel in public.
During the rare moments her parents would be home for extended periods of time, her mother would duel with her in their kitchen. Kale would join in too when he wasn't busy with University studies. These precious family moments pushed Roxanne to keep her interest in dueling. Her parents and brother encouraged her to keep trying to make friends with the kids at school.
Unfortunately, this lead to an event in the fifth grade where a boy she defeated grabbed the cards in her hand and tore them up. He accused her of cheating in a fit after losing. Roxanne became somewhat reclusive afterward the event and refused to leave her room. To make matters worse, her parents seemingly up and vanished later that month. They had gone missing in Egypt during an expedition. Her brother had only recently graduated from University and had to take over their research company. Kale was too busy to help his grieving siblings. Roxanne became a shut in during this hectic mess.
For an entire year, she hid in her room and played Duel Monsters by herself. Eventually, her brother decided to sign her up to enter Duel Academy in Japan. He figured it'd be best for her to get out of the house and go to a new environment. While Roxanne wasn't exactly eager to go to the school, she decided to try her hardest for her brother's sake.
Her hardest, unfortunately, wasn't enough. While she scored top marks during the written exam, when it came time for the dueling exam, Roxanne made a spectacle of herself and fainted in front of everyone. She managed to get into the school, but the girl became well known as a joke within the school grounds.
